Because it is a half sphere which does not have sharp focal point, you can heat the pot evenly. This feature makes it suitable to cook rice or cakes. It can cook the five cups of rice in 40 minutes. Additionally it has relarively high robustness as a concentrator type solar cooker.



Only a part of the light receied by the cooker is used to heat the pot.





It is a little difficult to find the best position of the pot because it does not have a focal point. Once you find the good configuration, it can heat the pot quite evenly.
