You can make a solar cooker from one single carton!
Carton Cooker which was brought up on NHK's TV programme "Metropolitan Area Network."

How to make

@Choose a carton as shown in the picture whose depth is larger than its height, and the height is larger than the width.

Cartonstep1

If you choose the box with the depth of around 40cm, you can boil 500cc of water in 90min in summer in Japan.

Cartonstep1

Remove four flips on the top. We use them later.

Cartonstep1

Let's name the longer flip A, and the other, B.

Cartonstep1

Cut along the red line in the picture

Cartonstep1

Then you will get a cross-shaped development. When it comes apart, put them together with bond.

Cartonstep1

Cut along the red lines. Then, add parts A and B as shown with bond.

Cartonstep1

Adhere aluminum foils on the surface of the body. Do not mind wrinkles. They will not affect the performance of the cooker at all. You can use ordinary paper paste to stick the aluminum foils.

Cartonstep1

Leave it one night to make the paste dry completely. To set up the cooker, use clips. At first, with two clips, put together the rear panel (with A parts) and side panels. Make sure that the side panels are inclined around 60 degrees from the horizontal plane (ground) and the rear panel is upright.

Cartonstep1

Then fold the front panel at the line shown in the picture. We use a part of the bottom as the extention of the front panel. It increases the power a lot so make sure that you raise the front panel at that position.

Cartonstep1

This is the view from the side.

Cartonstep1

This is how it looks from its front.

Cartonstep1

According to the sun elevation, adjust the angle of the front panel for the pot to receive the maxmum amount of sun light. For example, when the sun is high (say around 70 degrees), set the front panel at around 45 degrees.

Cartonstep1

Select the black colored pot and put it in the plastic bag which is heat resistant (Polypropylene) to reduce the heat loss by convection. (Or you can make your own green house using a glass bowl, clear plastic case, etc.)

Cartonstep1

Place two sticks between the pot and the cooker to reduce the heat loss by conduction.

Cartonstep1

After setting the pot in the cooker, direct it to the sun and wait around 90 minutes.

Cartonstep1

You can bake a cake as shown in the TV program.
